Frequently Asked Questions
How does a U-SENSE tag work?
A U-SENSE tag is a passive, battery-free sensing tag read only by the U-Rack Strip cell directly in front of it. That deliberately short reach is the point: it tells the strip exactly which U a device occupies, with no cross-reads from the slot above or below. For long-range reads at docks and gates the same device carries a REFLECTA UHF RFID tag.
How many U-Rack Strips does a 42U rack need?
Seven strips of six sensing cells cover 42 U. One Rack Controller supports up to eight strips (48 U), so a 42U rack needs one controller and seven strips. Strips daisy-chain, and the Reader Registry stores which strip maps to which U-range so wiring order does not have to match physical order.
Does the strip block airflow or need rack modification?
The strip mounts inside the rack along the front rail line, outside the equipment airflow path, and needs no drilling of the rack or the devices. The tag sits on the device's front face or mounting ear.
What does the Rack Controller need from the facility network?
One network connection per rack to reach the VigiStock server. The link is encrypted, each controller authenticates with its own device identity, and a controller that drops off the network is marked offline within seconds. Ports, protocols and certificate handling are documented for your network team under NDA during the project security review.
