Server Lifts for Data Centres

Lift, position and install to the top U without manual lifting – customised to your racks and aisles

Rack-handling equipment, configured per site

A 2U server weighs 25 to 40 kg; a loaded 4U storage array or blade chassis can pass 100 kg. Lifting that to U40 by hand needs two or three people, a ladder, and luck. A server lift puts the device on a powered platform, raises it to the exact U, and lets one technician slide it onto the rails. Convalexa supplies server lifts made in India by our manufacturing partner, configured to your rack height, aisle width and load, and supports them alongside VigiStock and REFLECTA hardware so a new hall is commissioned with one supplier.

Why a dedicated server lift

  • One-person installs – One technician lifts, positions and racks a device that otherwise needs two or three.
  • No injury, no dropped kit – Removes the manual lift to high U-positions, the main cause of back injury and dropped hardware in server rooms.
  • Exact U alignment – Fine height control lines the device up with the rails so it slides in without forcing or scraping neighbouring equipment.
  • Built for cold aisles – Footprint and turning radius sized to your aisle width; moves through hall doors and cage gates.
  • Stable under load – Locking castors, load-rated platform, anti-tilt base, and mechanical locks that hold the platform if power is lost.
  • Customisable – Lift height, platform, drive, power and accessories specified per site, not from a fixed catalogue.

Three drive options

DriveHow it liftsBest forConsider
Manual winchHand-cranked winch raises the platform on the mast; mechanical brake holds it at any height.Server rooms and small halls with occasional installs and lighter devices.Slower on tall racks; operator effort rises with load.
Electric (mains)Motor-driven lift with push-button up/down and fine positioning.Halls where a power point is always within reach of the rack.Trailing cable in the aisle; limited range between sockets.
Battery-poweredOn-board rechargeable battery drives the lift; charger docks overnight.Large halls and colocation floors where the lift travels between rows and cages all day.Battery capacity sized to your daily install count; charging bay needed.

What we configure for your site

ParameterHow it is setWhat to tell us
Lift heightPlatform reaches the top U of your tallest rack with working clearance. 42U and 47U/48U racks are the usual targets.Tallest rack height, top-U height from floor
Load ratingRated above your heaviest device with margin. Most data centre lifters sit in the 150 to 300 kg class at platform centre.Heaviest device you rack (storage array, blade chassis, UPS module)
PlatformSized for 19-inch rack-mount equipment and your deepest chassis. Side-load for tight aisles, front-load for wide ones, extendable platform for deep storage shelves.Deepest chassis, cold-aisle width
Lowered heightPlatform drops low enough to take a device off a pallet or trolley without a second lift. How equipment arrives at the aisle
Footprint and castorsBase width and turning radius matched to aisle, door and cage-gate widths. Locking castors; optional floor-protection wheels for raised floors.Narrowest door, gate and aisle; raised floor or slab
PowerManual, mains electric, or battery with charger, chosen by install volume and hall layout.Installs per week, distance between rows

Figures above are configuration ranges, not a fixed model. Each lift is built to the specification agreed in the quote.

Guided MAC: the lift and VigiStock together

The lift is layer 6 of the VigiStock platform: the physical half of guided moves, adds and changes. The sequence on a strip-fitted rack:

  1. Reserve. The admin reserves a U-span for the incoming device against its PO. The span shows purple on Rack Elevation and the rack's own LEDs light purple at the target slot.
  2. Lift. The technician loads the device on the lift at the staging area, scans its U-SENSE tag with the handheld, and wheels it to the rack. The gate reader logs it entering the hall.
  3. Place. The platform is raised to the purple U; the device slides onto the rails.
  4. Confirm. Within one sweep the U-Rack Strip senses the tag, the slot turns green, the reservation clears itself and the asset trace records the placement with time and method.

The lift itself carries a REFLECTA UHF tag and lives in the VigiStock register as a tool: checkpoint reads show when it leaves a hall, and the maintenance schedule sits with every other asset. For halls without strips, the handheld's U-Slot Verify confirms the placement instead.

Commissioning bundle for new halls

Operators opening a new hall in India can take the whole layer set from one supplier: U-Rack Strips and Rack Controllers specified in the rack bill of materials, U-SENSE and UHF tags for every device, a handheld reader and gate reader at the dock, VigiStock installed on-premises, and the server lift sized to the racks. One PO, one commissioning plan, one support contact. Ask for the bundle when you request a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Manual, electric or battery: which server lift should we choose?

Manual winch lifts suit server rooms with occasional installs and lighter devices. Electric mains lifts suit halls where a power point is always within reach. Battery-powered lifts suit large halls and colocation floors where the lift travels between rows and cages all day. We configure the drive to your install volume, device weights and hall layout.

Can the lift be customised to our racks and aisles?

Yes. Lift height is matched to the top U of your tallest rack, platform size to your deepest chassis, footprint and turning radius to your cold-aisle width, and load rating to the heaviest device you rack. Side-load, front-load, extended platforms and anti-tilt options are specified per site.

How heavy a server can it lift?

Lifts are configured to a load class that covers your heaviest device with margin. Most data centre lifters are rated in the 150 to 300 kg range at platform centre, which covers 4U storage arrays, blade chassis and UPS modules. Tell us the heaviest unit on your floor and we size to it.

Does it work with VigiStock?

Yes. In VigiStock, a U-span is reserved for the incoming device and the rack LEDs show purple at the target slot. The technician lifts the device, places it, and the U-SENSE strip confirms it green. The lift itself is a tagged asset in the register, read at the gate when it leaves the hall.

Who supplies, delivers and supports the lift?

Convalexa. The lifts are manufactured in India by our manufacturing partner to the specification we agree with you. Convalexa handles configuration, supply, delivery, operator briefing and after-sales support, and bundles the lift with VigiStock and REFLECTA hardware for new-hall commissioning.

Can we buy the server lift as separate equipment, without VigiStock?

Yes. The lift is available on its own. Convalexa supports you in procuring it, configuring it to your racks and aisles, delivering it and servicing it, with no VigiStock or REFLECTA hardware required. VigiStock integration can be added later if you want guided placement.
